Appliance rebate program expected to help residents save money
January 24, 2012
South Carolina residents planning to purchase new, ENERGY STAR qualified appliances will be eligible to receive rebates ranging from $50 to $100 starting Friday, January, 27, 2012 ending Sunday, February 5, 2012 through the state’s remaining portion of the appliance rebate stimulus program.
Qualifying appliances include ENERGY STAR labeled clothes washers, dishwashers, refrigerators and room air conditioning units (window units). Eligible clothes washers will receive a $100 rebate while dishwashers, refrigerators and room air conditioning units will receive $50 rebates. All qualifying purchases occurring throughout this program will be eligible to receive a rebate.
"We are excited to offer another rebate program that will not only help South Carolinians purchase new appliances but will also help them save money on their utility bills by upgrading to these more energy efficient products,” said Ashlie Lancaster, director of the S.C. Energy Office. “We also hope this program will remind people to look for the ENERGY STAR label wherever they shop."
South Carolinians wishing to participate in this program must be replacing an existing appliance in their primary residence with a new, ENERGY STAR appliance of the same type. The replaced appliance must be hauled away and properly disposed of in order to ensure it is removed from the power grid. After purchasing these appliances at any South Carolina retailer, the customer must submit a rebate application and corresponding receipt postmarked within five (5) calendar days from the purchase date. The application can be found on our website at www.energy.sc.gov/rebates. Only one rebate per appliance type per household is allowed through this program.
