Performance Contracting
Energy performance contracting is a method for public and private entities to implement energy conservation measures with no additional financial outlay. The performance contracting company finances the upfront costs, and the costs of energy saving improvements.

An energy performance contract is an agreement for a comprehensive package of energy efficiency services and equipment.  Typically, an energy performance contractor agrees to perform a detailed facility audit, engineer a solution, install equipment, and guarantees the savings.  Energy performance contractors can also assist with procurement of financing, and maintaining and operating equipment. Potential benefits of performance contracting include single source responsibility, guaranteed results, easy financing, and time compression allowing quick realization of savings.

The SCEO provides assistance to public entities interested in energy performance contracts with private sector vendors. For more information please review the Guide to Performance Contracting or the Performance Contracting Manual.

The SCEO does not endorse any specific contractor. For more information on performance contracting, visit the National Association of Energy Service Companies (NAESCO).
