The South Carolina Renewable Energy Grant Program administered through the SC Department of Agriculture was a program designed to provide funds for research and demonstration projects for wind, solar, hydropower, and biomass energy projects across the state. The program was permanently suspended in 2008, but prior to the suspension 14 matching grants and 10 planning grants were awarded to in-state public and private organizations for a total of $2,443,829.
Planning grants for up to $10,000 were available to research institutions or private organizations to develop proposals to obtain federal grants and other funding sources for renewable energy projects in South Carolina.
Matching grants for up to $200,000 were available for research or demonstration renewable energy projects not to exceed fifty percent of the total cost of the project.
